luchadores del rope

Badass aerial acrobats go head-to-head in the Aloft punk circus church for a new kind of Sunday mass.  Pageantry, might, and athleticism come to a crescendo with live musical accompaniment.

The spirit of this event is sheer conviviality and is all about collective effervescence. It is not so much about competition or warfare, but rather about the camaraderie. It's really daring one another and being super jazzed when each other is able to throw a trick or really nail musicality or just bring a certain quality to the apparatus that is utterly inspiring. There is no quantifiable way to "win" or "battle" - just demonstrate and cheer like heck throughout the whole process.

All levels of rope artists welcome to apply!  Show us what you've got!

Matches of different styles and levels included and shall lead up to the heavyweight prize fight: self-proclaimed world champion Emiliano Ron vs. bonafide USA champion Terry Crane.  Referee is the veritable queen of the rope and punk high-priestess of Aloft, Shayna Swanson.

The application fee is $25 and goes directly towards making Moment possible (venue rentals, equipment rentals, website hosting, program printing, etc.). Those selected from the submissions to perform during Luchadores del Rope will receive festival passes and discounts on masterclasses.  Travel and lodging is not included.

NACHO RICCI, ARGENTINA

Nacho Ricci (Nacho Rope) is one of the most important figures of the rope. He is a dreamer, a lover of impossible things. After finishing “La Arena” circus school in Argentina he moved to Barcelona, a point reference of rope.

He is well known for bringing rope back to contemporary circus festivals, like Cirque de Demain, where his act “Here, now” was the first rope solo to be presented in more than ten years.

At present Nacho travels around the world teaching rope and performing his new act “Part of me”, an exquisite solo with a brilliant technique that reminds us the importance of following one’s passion.

He is co-organizer of the Barcelona Rope Meeting, one of the largest gatherings of rope artists in the world.
